WEST SEATTLE residence
Located in the Alaska Junction area of West Seattle, this home takes advantage of the oversized parcel, downtown & mountain views, excellent schools, and walk-able neighborhood.
The program of the house entails 4-bedrooms, 3-full-bathrooms, 2-half-bathrooms, an attached oversized 1-car “pass-thru” garage (that leads to an oversized 2-car garage in the back yard – also containing a bathroom), as well as an open floor plan, spacious kitchen, mini-Master, large 3rd floor bonus room, and multiple decks & patios to enjoy the peaceful setting & views.
The exterior design pays homage to the “Prairie” style (with the use of hip roofs & deep eaves), meanwhile incorporating modern Pacific Northwest touches. To help minimize the 3-story volume, dark-gray horizontal siding was used on the largest volume, as well as bold black “horizontals” at each floor line (and eaves) - minimizing the verticality and accentuating the horizontality.
The two-story & three-story volumes are separated by a warm cedar volume (that pierces the entire structure), which delineates the circulation spine and contains the modern glu-lam & steel staircase.
